The theatre of democracy and the service economy paradigm, 2009-11, performance (variable length), video (1min32secs), video (6mins11secs), text

The protocol for electing the Doge of Venice is presented here as an abstracted TV game-show. In the performance version a game-show host led the audience through the nine voting rounds of the electoral procedure, acting this out in front of a green-screen (the audience was not able to see the animation behind the performer, it was instead displayed on a separate monitor, adding a further layer of alienation to the piece.)

This process takes approximately 15mins after which the performer (after taking a sly hit from his hip-flask in a world weary manner) began the process again.
